Shown left is Patience made by the very talented Susie Bedford-Stradling,
a lovely lady who lives here in Cornwall and whose talent was rightly recognised in the recent British Bear Artist awards.
All Susie's bears have that gorgeous appealing expression, you just want to pick them up and hug them !!!
About making Patience Susie says, '' I spliced
a 1/2 inch band of 80mm ivory mohair around her neck and ankles to give a ruff effect. It was a bit of an experiment
and took ages to match the seams up but I thought that as I have now entered my third year of bear making I ought to push
myself a little to try different things - nervewracking'.
I think you would agree that Susie has done a lovely job and I am so
pleased that the mohair I dyed has been used for such a lovely bear.

This stunning chap has been restored by Kay Cox of Sheffield. Kay
bought this lovely bear at the Pudsey show (did you happen to see her with with various bear parts sticking out of various
bags at the show .....)?
He was in a very sorry state and although his previous owners had intended
to put him back together and restore him to his former glory they just didn't get round to it.
Luckily, Kay found him and it was love at first sight and
he became an early Christmas present from her wonderful hubby.
|
|

|
After spending hours and hours cleaning and patching him Kay then decided
that his mohair should be returned to its original colour (as found around the joints and neck), so she phoned me and asked
for advice about using the Earth Palette Dyes.
Although I was dubious about using them direct on the bear (I was worried
that the colour would come off if the mohair wasn't rinsed .... which was not an option), Kay went ahead and gently painted
the fur, not the backing, and then wiped and wiped and dryed and wiped until the colour was right, the fur was dry and no
colour came of even on a white handkerchief.
|
|

|
I think Kay deserves a medal for this labour of love. She has restored
him beautifully and in her own words
'I'm so pleased with him / her, still can't make up my mind, the shape is
a him but the colour is a her !! He/she makes me smile when I wake up and see it each morning, and lets face it you
.... you can't miss it !!'
